Things to Look for in a Home Builder

Frequent and open communication through the entire planning and building process, and exceptional customer service after the sale are of the utmost importance and you should look for this in a home builder. Years of experience are evident in each home, check model home finishes for quality.  This will help to ensure complete satisfaction when you settle in and notice these details later.

Is your home builder’s custom design process really custom?  Can you can build in the features and options that are uniquely yours? Most home builders start with you selecting a floor plan and lot, but the rest is up to you if the build is truly custom – the colors, the cabinetry, the flooring, the lighting, the trim work – everything that makes the home yours.

Does your builder offer you the convenience of coordinating the purchase and installation of items such as flooring, countertops, plumbing fixtures, lighting packages, and more? It should be the build company’s goal to make this process as easy as possible for you so when moving day arrives you can focus on settling into your home, not coordinating and working on installing major items yourself.

Prior to meeting with your Real Estate Professional and your home builder representative, give some thought to color schemes. You may want to bring items to help with your color selections, such as a swatch of material, favorite accents, or framed artwork. With your ideas in mind, they can help make your dreams a reality. You may also want to refer to the latest issues of home decorating magazines as other good sources for color and finish ideas. This will give you excellent planning tips to help you decide on an interior design scheme.

Once the selection process is completed and all pricing has been agreed to, you will have to sign off on the paperwork before the construction begins. This is truly the beginning of making your vision a reality when construction begins.
